University of Louisville School of Medicine Trover Campus Rural Medicine Accelerated Track (RMAT)
RMAT began in 2012 and is a 130-week curriculum with the clinical portion based at the ULSOM regional rural Trover Campus in Madisonville.
Two RMAT students per year spend the first two years in Louisville with their traditional 4 year Trover Rural Track classmates with no change in the traditional basic science curriculum
Using summer breaks, RMAT students complete 12 weeks of rural Family Medicine rotations prior to the beginning of the traditional M-3 year including 4 weeks in their hometown
M-3 year includes 6 week acting internship with ICU in addition to other rotations in the traditional M-3 curriculum
M-3 RMAT students interview and match using the schedule of the traditional M-4 student
First RMAT grad is now in rural practice near her hometown
50% of RMAT grads have matched to Madisonville FM residency, others chose FM programs closer to home
