Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) Family Medicine Accelerated Track (FM-ACT)

Memorial Medicine Family Medicine Residency teamed up with Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) to institute an innovative 3-year accelerated medical school curriculum track in 2012

  • Aim to increase the number of medical students choosing a career in primary care, especially in underserved areas and provide patient-centered care.

  • Enable seamless transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education.

  • Opportunities for Family Medicine, Internal Medicine (primary care focus) over 3 campuses

  • Students introduced to the program early M1 year

  • Program is divided in ACT-1 (6 weeks after M1 year) and ACT-2 (5 weeks after M2 year that functions as FM clerkship rotation time)

  • Longitudinal clinic experiences throughout M2 and M3 years

  • Linked to residency program in FM/IM, via NRMP waiver

  • Early integration and relationship with FM/IM departments

  • Longitudinal research opportunities with faculty and residents

  • One-on-one faculty teaching

  • 130 weeks of curriculum

  • Provide more efficient training of primary care physicians with less financial burdens.

  • Recently awarded $1.2 Million from state of Georgia to expand the program (IM, Peds, FM) on 3 campuses of MUSM within the state

  • This recent award allows up to provide tuition relief for M2 and M3 years with a 3 year commitment to primary care in GA
